FIVE REASONS TO DIGITIZE YOUR HOME MOVIES

1. Film Deteriorates with age

Believe it or not, film does not last forever. It will deteriorate at a much faster rate if stored improperly. Your film should be stored in a cool, dry, breathable environment. Do not store in an airtight container, avoid exposing your film to sunlight and always handle your film by the edges or wear gloves if  possible. The dirt and oils from your hand are harmful to the film. Who knows what another few years will bring to you your film reels, but eventually the film reels will be completely unsalvageable and unable to properly digitize. It is best to have your film reels digitized as soon as possible to ensure you can properly preserve your legacy for future generations.

2. Make Multiple copies

If you have not had your home movies or photos digitized you are at risk of losing them! Once we digitize your home movies you can now fit all of your media on a flash drive! You can make multiple copies to keep around your house, share with family and friends, upload a copy to the cloud, burn to DVD or share on social media. Having multiple copies is the safest way to make sure you are properly preserving your home movies for you and your family! You may purchase additional flash drives, hard drives or DVD's if you order with Vintage Archives.

3. Mechanical Parts Can Fail

Video tapes are mechanical and can break easy. Having a majority of your home movies on video tapes leaves you very vulnerable. A simple spring, roller or take up real can break and your tape could be eaten by a VCR player and lost for ever! It is crucial that you have your video tapes digitized to ensure they are safe. Video Tapes are more susceptible to breaking the older they get.
